2nd hand headlight?

Hello,
We have a 2004 XC90 which I have recently run into a wall breaking the front passenger headlight. The whole headlight unit needs to be replaced, we have been quoted £298 + VAT for this (£360). The problems are a) we are pretty skint and b) the driver side headlight is quite worn so buying a brand new one for the passenger side will make this look daft.

Does anyone know where I could get a 2nd hand front passenger side headlight that is in good working condition?

Or would you just cough up for a brand new one and settle for a lopsided car?

Also, as a separate quick question, can I ask what type of oil you all use or what you feel is best for the performance of this car?

Many thanks!

try ebay or post a request on one of the parts request sites from google - should be able to get a better price than that.

If your other headlight has started to craze/cloud across the top, try using t-cut/rubbing compound and an electric polisher - i did this for about 10mins on each headlight and removed about 80% of the hazing

There's one on E-Bay right now at £229.98 inc. delivery advertised as Brand New.
( I have no connection with the seller - just did a search for you :-)

As for the condition of your other headlamp, it's quite common for them to suffer scratches and crazing -
For a lot less than the cost of a new unit you can usually polish out the majority using a very fine polishing compound -
Search the XC90 forum for "Headlamps" where there's mention of a few products to try,
including Turtle Wax Headlamp Restorer Kit for about £20.00

Regarding Engine Oil, try searching the XC90 Forum for "Which Engine Oil" -
Plenty of discussions and you'll probably find the information specific for the engine variant you have ;-)

Don't be too optimistic about what you can achieve with these kits. If the problem is "clouding" then the results can be very good but if there is "crazing", they will not cope so well. I tried with my own headlights and whilst they are improved, no amount of work will remove the small cracks which seem to go deep into the plastic.

Great, thanks for your responses. I didn't know about the headlight restorer so will give it a go.
