2005 V70 brake/ABS issue

Hi there

Posted this message yesterday on the wrong forum so apologies if you've seen it before.

I have a 2005 V70 D5 with about 122,000 miles on it. I pulled up at a roundabout this morning and there was a distinct "clunk" as I braked. The car is still braking but does not feel "normal" when doing so.

The ABS light has illuminated and the message anti skid temporarily disabled has appeared but no other warning lights.

I'd be very grateful for any advice.

pad retaining spring missing or fitted incorrectly?

If not as above then find someone near you with vida and pull the codes.

If that's not 100% conclusive you could try checking the readings from the wheel speed sensors because the tone rings can break at high mileage. I'm guessing that can result in funny noises

I could be wrong though obviously I'm definitely not an expert

update - I got the codes read and it was a dodgy front ABS sensor

sensor was replaced and appears to be fine now (fingers crossed)

thanks for the responses

Had the same problem and the same solution recently- however, as suggested above, it's a good idea to check, clean and waxoil the reluctor rings. They are very exposed and can be expensive to replace if they crack.

Just over a fiver total for both front rings if you can DIY.

And just under £200 (each) if you can't....! Assuming the shaft isn't seized in the hub, which can be a lot more..

That's a criminal price.
I changed my neighbour's reluctor the other week for £50 and felt slightly guilty at that. He was delighted.

I was gonna say.. for that money you could just replace the shafts couldn't you, get new CV's and gaiters at the same time

I must be in the wrong business
