tuning 850 t5
I am sure this will have been discussed many times but I cannot find any relevant info.
I have a 94 850 T5 manual that I am looking to tune up - from 225 to around 250 bhp would be enough. The engine is in good shape, ignition from coil onwards replaced a couple of months ago. I have replaced the paper filter in the standard airbox by K&N and have picked up an ECU that I plan to rechip with this one from DP Tuning: http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/d/l140/...cZr9SNHONw.jpg It claims to give 300 bhp with free flowing intake and exhaust; I don't plan to change exhuast (although at some point in time I expect it to fall apart so a replacement would be needed) and don't really expect to see 300 bhp. Anyone have any pointers or experience with this chip, and how it is likely to perform with my set up? Would it be necessary to fit silicone air hoses as they are less likely to blow off under the higher pressure? TIA. |
I have no experience of this company or its chips, however I'd rather have intimate relations with an orangutan than fit one to my car. Get something from a reputable company such as TME, RICA, HLM, BSR. Fitting an ebay type chip is asking for trouble.
Is an 850 T5 good for 250bhp? Easily. The basic T5 engine is the same in an 850 T5 as it is in my phase 1 V70R and that left the factory with 240bhp as std (auto) and 250bhp in manual cars. I think 250 is pushing it with a 15G turbo - you'd be better off with a 16T or 18T. Add a good exhaust and remap and you should see 260-280 pretty easily. If you do fit your chip, please let us know how long your engine lasts... yes I'm being serious :) HTH |
