Axle identification

Hi all. Its a long shot. But can anyone identify this axle from the picture? I am told it is a heavy duty 240 axle but would like your expertise on it.

I don't know about being heavy-duty, I'm not sure what that means exactly.
But it's an earlier one, as there does not appear to be a speedometer sensor on the back cover. So it would have been matched to a gearbox having a mechanical flexible drive to the speedometer, not the later kind working electronically from a trigger on the axle.

Did you check if it's standard or LSD ?

There is no heavy duty version. It is a older axle so could be 1030 or 1031

So apart from the side ribs what am I looking for? E..g I want the strongest version to put in an amazon. Also not seen one up that way so not seen the bottom ribs before.

Unless you're going for about 800hp in your Amazon the chances of you breaking it are very slim.

Would a 240 axle fit an Amazon? Well, I suppose anything can be made to fit, but what I mean is would that be a straightforward job? I'm guessing you want to do that to get disc brakes at the rear?

I'm curious. If you do fit the 240 rear axle please do write it up here with some pictures.

Which is the best one then?

They are all equally indestructible :)

There are I think different ratios?

Hi
yes you can fit a 240 axle in a amazon
its 2 inch wider but that's ok
make new hand brake cables
the UJ flange is the same
PCD is metric not inch so use the 240 wheels
now the hard bit you have to cut all the axle perches off make new ones and weld them on the hole job about 1 and a half days
if you want you can come and have a look
I am in Hastings
