Volvo 960 cd 2.5 Petrol, Manual 1995 Estate
Hi,
After selling my mkII Golf, I picked this up as I felt the need for a bit of comfort and luxury over the colder months. Now I am looking for something a bit smaller and have decided to put Tucker up for sale. He is a lovely runner and has low mileage for his age - only 114,000 miles. Im pleased know that a tow-bar has never been fitted, so the engine still feels nice and tight. · Full Service History · Taxed until end July 2010 · MOT due in October 2010 · All 4 tyres have 4 mm tread · Manual and all other paperwork complete. Tucker has been meticulously maintained by the previous owner with no expense spared. There are receipts for £100's in the last 12 months alone. Its Interior/Comfort Options make it such a nice place to be. The heated leather seats make getting to it first thing in the morning a pleasure and thanks to the adjustable electrics you can get set in for the long haul. It has all the options - Alloy Wheels (no curbing) + Spare with new tyre, Air Conditioning, Climate Control, Cruise Control, Electric heated leather Seats, Power-assisted Steering (PAS), Power Seats, Power Windows, Sunroof, Tilt Steering Wheel. This thing is in its element when shown an A road, the v6 has a nice rasp when opening it up, but refined as you like when cruising at any speed. MPG is as you would expect from an engine this size, but as it is sweet as a nut, it returns the same figures as it did when it hopped off the boat from Sweden. The boot space will swallow anything you can throw at it - Camping Stuff, Kids, Dogs, Tip Runs, Ikea Trips the lot. You can comfortably fit a grown man in the back, I tried this out last week then we had some sun and enjoyed a couple of bottles of Becks in its mobile Solarium out back. Practicality wise you may think that this thing is a nightmare to get about but although you cannot get it into a parking space as you would a smart car, its turning circle is amazing. I live up a rabbit warren of back roads and can turn this car around with fingertip ease thanks to this and the PAS. With any car of this age, there are always a few points to note: · The Power Steering Unit has a slow leak - The previous owner had a quote of about £200 to replace the PSU, but we have always been happy to simply have the fluid topped up every 3-4 months. · The rear centre brake light (on the rear window) is loose and held on with duck tape (see photo) · The rubber seal on the lower driver corner of the windscreen is loose and held down with tape (see photo) Otherwise, in my opinion, this car is in exceptional condition - the leather interior is super-soft without being thread-bare and the electrics all work perfectly. Supplied with Mats in the front and back (so the carpet underneath is also lovely). Me and Tucker are located in Holmfirth HD9. Price wise I am looking at around £1000 ono. I would also consider part ex/swapsies. Thanks for looking, Tom :) http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0253.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0245.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0247.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0255.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0249.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0254.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0251.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0282.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0292.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0250.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0289.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0290.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0287.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0286.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Photo0285.jpg ^_^ |

V6??
I am sure in your description of your lovely looking 960, as it having a V6 engine is an oversight, as the photograph shows, it has the wonderful straght six white block lump we fellow 960/S90/V90 owners know and love. Good luck with the sale, it does look lovely, one of the best coachwork and interior colour combinations in my opinion. I would jump at the chance to own it if it were not for having five Volvos already, three 960 CD estates, a S90 and a V70 AWD Auto. Try taking it to the York Raceway meet later this month and let the potential punters see it 'in the flesh' and see if the VOC grapevine works its magic. All best wishes,A. VOC 22929

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/paperbag.gif haha, shame I can edit my original post.
The purr of the straight 6 is worth the pain at the pumps alone. Ive had so much fun owning this car. When I pulled away from the last owners house, I was thinking "what the hell have you just done!" then 2 minutes down the road I knew I had stumbled upon something amazing. Was it not for yearning for another old golf, this would be mine for many years to come. How I will miss the pure luxury of it http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...c/Icon_cry.gif |
BUMP for some glorious weather :)

Possible P/X?
Quote:
That's a nice looking motor you have there :-) You say you're looking for something a bit smaller, well would you consider a P/X for my 1995 Peugeot 306 Diesel? It's the complete antithesis of Tucker (low trim level, compact and slow but VERY economical). It's never let me down in the 8 years I've had it. It's done 98k (mainly motorway miles, the engines are good for 250k in these) and is in pretty good overall condition for its age. If the Peugeot's not your thing, I've also got a kit-car you might be interested in - it's a Quantum 2+2 - a 2 seater fibre-glass rag-top based on a Mk2 Fiesta XR2. It weighs nothing and goes like stink! I think it's got to be worth over £1k, so a swap could be negotiated. If that doesn't float your boat either, then I may still be interested in buying Tucker off you... Cheers! |
Well guys, thanks for the interest. Sorry about the lack of communication, Ive has a b@$*%&d of a week at work... http://www.mumszone.co.uk/forums/ima...ies/violin.gif Thanks heavens for a long weekend!
He'll be available for viewing after this weekend as we're out for a trip out to North Yorkshire for the weekend. I will post up a few more pictures of him in action. Ive been asked about the corners of the car, as it is inevitable that in his illustrious career he's had his knees grazed. These have all been touched up in the body colour and are only really noticeable close up. Also, the sticker on the engine indicates that the cam belt was changed at 70,000 miles, but will have a check through the history and post up further information when I get a chance. Regarding part ex's - Although I would prefer a cash sale, but am looking for something small, fast and comfortable - if such cars exist! Tom http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...sgod/arnie.gif |

Hi,
I'll be in Leeds on or around the 12th June, so perhaps I could arrange a viewing if it's not sold by then? Cheers, Steve |
Good day Volvonians,
Bit of an update…. The emissions light on the dash is lit up, so to know it isn’t going to screw over any prospective buyers in the near future, I took it to the local Volvo specialist for a fault check. Whereas no faults came up, he did detect a slight misfire – something I had not noticed. We’re thinking that a new set of plugs and leads should sort things, but to be sure I have booked it in on Tuesday for him to give Tucker the once over… Also, like a doughnut I have misplaced my insurance envelope. Not a problem I know, but it had the effin V5 document in it. Ive sent off for another one today. Gordon from the 1800 section has dibs. I'm just waiting on the results of Tuesday to get a clear picture on where we stand. Ill update this after then. Have a nice weekend folks. Tom |
Riiiiiiiiiiight, The guy who is looking at it never mentioned the leads. I was assuming that the leads were like HT leads as I've never had a car with Coil Packs... the 960 having 2 coil packs - one for the odd cylinders and one for the evensies.
Just so you know ;) |
Numbers
Hi Tom, One coil pack per cylinder, six of the expensive little swines, they are under the black cover between the cams. Two is the number I have left from a set of six I bought from a V90 that had been rear ended in 2007. Most times only one packs up so I never needed to change the lot. Multi sparke plugs is the way to go Bosch super 4s.Best wishes, Alan. VOC 22929

Deary me!! I'm going to have to get the old lug 'oils cleaned out! I take it that there are 2 controllers that control the odd/even cylinders then? He said something like that... it was before 9am, no coffee consumed... hot day.... naked lady calenders.... you know!
How much do you want for the pair? Are these the plugs? Thanks again, Tom |

I second that. I've nothing against people being old and doddery, but this chap is not knowledgable about Volvos. I don't have specific examples like yoda960, but I called there a few years back to ask about something on my first 240. I can't recall what the issue was now, but I remember being shocked that the 'specialist' knew a lot less than me about such a ubiquitous Volvo model, so I left and never went back. John PS this 960 looks nice - surprised it's not already been snapped up! |
Cheers for the heads up guys but my garage reccomended i go up genford motors near berry brow. he seemed to know his onions.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for giving me first dibs on the car. Circumstances have changed a bit as I have since found via eBay an aftermarket cat exhaust section for our old car that's less than half the price of my usual parts supplier. It's just worth my while pushing our old barge through another years MOT so I'll have to bow out on this one (unless it blows a head gasket!). I think yours is a great car and it won't be long before a buyer comes along. Thanks for being so straight up about everything. Cheers, Gordon |
Thanks Gordon.
Thought I best update this following my trip to the garage. (the miserable b@$7ard that he was) I left it with him today to give it a look over. He must have done the fault checks again and something came up relating to a dicky air flow sensor. Following him clearing the fault, the car drives fine, but does not hold an idle and looks like a new one is needed. Nice one. He also noticed a small 1 1/2 inch crack in the exhaust pipe to the back of the car. It was of his opinion that a new MAF would set everything right. This said the car is still for sale with the aforementioned issues to take into account. I am going to reflect this in the price and am open to reasonable offers. Im around this weekend if anyone wants to come over. Tom |
WEHEYYYY Tucker drives again!!!!
As I never had the fob, neither did the chap before me - but I've had an auto electrician professionally bypass this, Problem he doesn't hold idle. Someone come with £650 and he's yours. All is needed is maybe a proper MAF (ebay one i got was junk) and a proper service and youve got your self a bargain!!! tom -07843 982 978 |
Tucker
Are you open to a 'cheeky' offers? Im looking for a doer upper, thats basically sound, i.e. clutch, geabox, engine, tidy bodywork all ok, but I'm a considerable distance away and dont have cash to burn. It sounds as if were not entirely sure whats the solution with the idle . If its driveable id consider it, and Id give it a good home - promise ! But I wouldnt go to £650.
Hurry up and squash my dreams, so I can get back to my search for a 2.3 tubo 940 workhorse, but you know never ventured, never gained, or something like that. |
ouch, 4 hours away... It would be the comfyest 4 hours back though!
I cant PM - not enough posts. email me an offer, I can only say no. Cheers, Tom |
Should add, the idle sorts itself out pretty much once its been running 10 minutes or so... it just runs a little lumpy. A bit of TLC should have him in tip top shape.
|
Email sent :)
|
Ive had a few bits of interest, but as this is the internet - Whoever agrees to come and give me £550 cash, can take him away.
PM to arrange a time and date and he's yours. Cheers, Tom |
Im tempted but my wifes not willing to drive for 4+ hours again.
Grrr ... Do you come anywhere south for any reason? |
shucks
shame no towbar and to far away but other than that looks a great car....good luck with the sale ne how
