Actually they are horrible. The rack is semi-flexible, and sits on thin slats directly on the paintwork. Friction wears the paint away, and trapped water and dirt start the roof rusting. When you take it off there are permanent stains from uneven sun-bleaching.

loki_the_glt Dec 27th, 2010 17:59

Unfortunate one

Last night on the hard shoulder of the southbound M6 at Winwick (Junction 22) around 7:20pm. Unfortunately, I wa northbound in the Valdez at the time.

Silver Torslanda estate coming down into Macclesfield from the Cat and Fiddle in a blizzard yesterday 11am - I'd just been up to the top in Arne and it was pretty damn scary! Not only could I feel his eagerness to plough through a stone wall or three, but I had a near miss with a Tesco delivery van coming the other way - the driver floored it in a snow drift and careered towards us, completely out of control....

mrkawasaki Jan 4th, 2011 12:48

Dark blue 240 estate passing ASDA in Hulme, Manchester - 11am today...

mrkawasaki Jan 7th, 2011 16:54

Dark blue 240 saloon, Barton Dock trading estate, this afternoon.

jmz Jan 7th, 2011 21:20

I used to see loads, yet since buying my 245 I've only seen one ....a very, very, very rusty brown A reg, and rusty wasn't the shade of brown.

Ash240 Jan 9th, 2011 17:34

Plenty around here...

GLT saloon
SE estate
torslanda estate
2 other estates but I'm not sure what type

Any body else from the Purbeck area on here? I'm trying to get a few spares if you are local and have any?

Mike_Brace Jan 9th, 2011 20:20

Out and about today I spotted a red estate in Kidderminster and a metallic blue one in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.

c_lee Jan 10th, 2011 01:23

Now come on - admit it -are we all looking to see if we have been spotted by another 240 driver.

:hidesbehindsofa:

I am.

Yes, but not much chance since my 240 has been in the garage since September. I regularly see a very tidy H reg silver GLT saloon parked at the Thornhill Park and Ride site in Oxford. It must be in use as it's not always in the same space! Anyone from here....?

Paul240480 Jan 18th, 2011 12:14

Not a lot of chance of me crossing anyone else from here either, unless you or I am on hols!

I was 'visited' by a D24 240 the other day. Sadly no pic. It was a tatty job, but with 440,000kms it was entitled to be. Apparently mechanically very good! The chap had just purchased a 740Tub Diesal from a friend of mine, which I'd posted as for sale on the frenchy forum. After the purchase he dropped by for a coffee:thumbs_up:, er, Roger that was,not the car!

czech240 Jan 18th, 2011 13:21

Unlikely to see me either!!

Mines coming up 330,000km :-)

Nice silver f reg saloon heading out of norwich on A11 this evening at about 6.45 ish.

B reg brown saloon in norwich late one evening just after christmas, had a very shiney new tow bar, that was obviously only just fitted, all socket screws and bolts bright shiney silver.

callumk5 Jan 19th, 2011 16:22

Very tidy A registered red estate heading east on the M40 between J7 and J6 at about 1400ish today. Couldn't get a picture because I was westbound at the time. Made me smile though...

Mike_Brace Jan 19th, 2011 23:51

A blue estate at Penmaenbach Services on the A55 at 2.000pm. I was on the other carriageway!

jmz Jan 23rd, 2011 00:01

Silver 240 estate in Lowton.

Spotted today ( Saturday ) about 13:10 hrs.

Silver 240 Estate on Newton Rd. ( A572 ), Lowton heading towards Leigh.

I was heading the opposite way.

Put my hand up but didn't see any response.

It was a lateish model ( didn't see reg ) but it had Tors style stripes on the bottom of the doors.

YEY a silver F reg 240 GLT in sainsbury water lane farnham ,looked like a sparks workhorse there were rolls of wire in the back:thumbs_up:

volvo always Jan 25th, 2011 20:27

Here where I live in southern Ireland there are very few old volvos. There is a 1990 740 turbo diesel estate. looks like a workhorse.

A 1995? 440 Very scruffy.

All of the other volvos are much newer V70, S40, S80, S60 etc. You see more newer volvos than old.

It must be because the tax on the older ones on the engine size for a 2.3l is 895 euros per year where as the modern diesels are cheaper to tax. Taxable on their emmisions level.

My 240 GLT is the only 240 I have seen in Ireland:broken_heart:

James:thumbs_up:

Three silver saloons within half a mile of where I live in Walton-on-Thames; a D-reg GLE, an F-reg GLT and my G-reg GLT. All look very clean.

JCL Jan 28th, 2011 13:30

This thread amuses me, how long will it continue on for I wonder? And here I am now helping it do exactly that!

Anyhow, on the main thoroughfare out of my hometown of East Cowes on the Isle of Wight parked on a chaps driveway are two 240's one estate and one saloon and alongside are two 740 estates. Clearly unused and sat for some time, two or three years at a guess. However, all four vehicles appear in fundamentally sound condition at a glance. I must knock on the owners door and ask him 'what the crack is' so to speak.

I work in Norwich, but I haven't seen any of those. I did see a brown 244 BOO 222X which I'm sure was on sale on eBay a few months ago on the inner ring road near Halfords just before Christmas.

If you see a white 240 estate G805 SPP it's my car that my friend Oliver is babysitting for me - he lives in Norwich. Go say hi or give him a wave.

F-reg (blue?) 240 saloon in Leigh, Manchester

F-reg (blue?) 240 saloon in Leigh, Manchester.

Was emerging from a side street in Leigh this lunchtime and got a wave from a fellow Volvo owner who looked surprised to see another 240 in town.

Returned the wave. Was it a forum member?

Hi rusty that was me.

I was on my way to work and I thought at the time ' now who was it on the forum who gave me that address off St Helens Rd and was his dark blue'.

Thought I might see a spotted on here.

I actually wondered whether there would be two spotted because my Mrs. was coming into Leigh soon after me same route in her 240 and your paths could have crossed seeing the direction you were turning.
