I kind of regret selling my 142, I prefer 140's to 240's

Some pics of the welding I’m working on. Will make up another video once the rear welding is done.

I don't like how you've got the car up in air, no i don't! some big wooden blocks, please, at one end on both sides. If the virus doesn't get you, your car will!

In think 1/2 a dozen supports are very adequate!😜

Yeah. Two axle stands, 6 1 tonne caravan jacks and a 2.5t hydraulic jack.

morwenna240 Apr 22nd, 2020 18:55

Oh yes, they'll support the weight more than adequately; it's the stability i'm worried about, it looks as a shove would see the car doing a crash landing. Not trying to be a "know all", just concerned for your safety. As we know, most times it works, one, only needs one, time an it doesn't. I'll shut up now.

Looks nice work, an motor. Am about to start similiar, on 145. Good luck to us all.

Rear fully welded now and ready for paint prep, no rust issues now. Front wings and bonnet off now and being welded. Hope to start prep and painting on the weekend.

She is pretty solid and folk have repaired her over the years to keep her on the road, a bit of tlc now and she will be good to go for a good while longer.

The old radio gubbins have been stripped out and converted internally to be be run with the old front and drive up to four speakers at 45 watts maximum output or two speakers at 75 watts maximum output.

Burdekin May 6th, 2020 19:17

Front end inner wing welding and a little painting done, driver’s wing needs a wee bit more adjusting.

Painting done but I touched the gravitex on the spare wheel wells with my leg so will need to touch them up. Rust proofing next and then flatting and polishing.

morwenna240 May 17th, 2020 23:44

Excellent! Are you sure that's not not a new body you somehow sourced from Sweden?!

Rust proofing done. Wheels blasted, painted and new tyres. The 142 is alive again. Dry and wet vacuumed the seats, this is what 50years of crud looks like. Back on the road for a drive this Friday.

All back together, gave her a clean, clay bar and quick hand polish. Still more to do but she is ready for our drive tomorrow.

morwenna240 May 28th, 2020 21:13

How lovely, an dog obviously enjoying it, too.
That's so encouraging, i can't wait to do the same. Alas, more rot was found in my 145, but, nothing loathe, we ordered more panels from Simon (who delivers damn quick, even in these times, Well done, sir!), an work goes on. Still looking for n/s/r door, anyone?

Carry on, people!

Started making sure the engine is working like it should; checked the timing, set the tapets, new coil and leads, new air filter, new fuel filter, new carb diaphragm so far. Will change the fuel pump, check the engine compression and then take her for a spin tomorrow to see what she goes like. Also have a fuel jet kit to fit.

Also got new suspension upgrade to do and new door locks and some door seals, so plenty to get on with.

Burdekin Jun 20th, 2020 19:24

Well had to work today but got over to the workshop after work.

So far with the engine I have changed the diaphragm, got the carb piston working nicely, screwed in the mixture screw as far as it can go, new air filter, new coil, new spark plugs and leads, new fuel filter, new fuel pump, checked timing and went for a spin with my wife and dog today. Well night and day, got to 60 and it just wanted to keep revving. Very windy and on a back road but up to 85 and was still going. Then a couple of times on the way home too on the dual carriageway way but wife wasn’t impressed so slowed down. She is no speed demon but much better. I still have a new needle and adjustable jet to fit.

Got new door locks and seals to fit along with rust proofing. Then it will be the suspension and steering.

Burdekin Jun 21st, 2020 13:52

Did a compression test, all 150 apart from #1 which was just a bit over 145 so all fine.

Hi, i see you have done a magnificent job on this rare beast, i had also painted my car , i have used modern cellulose, i have never painted before, just used £12 gun from ebay.

i find i have to keep polishing , as the paint sinks after a few days.
some pictures of my beast.
Did you find a lot of poor factory paint, ie runs in engine bay and luggage lid?
regards Julian

Good stuff.

Yeah there are runs in out of the way places, assumed it might had been resprayed in those areas but suppose could be original.

Got both door cards off, drivers window winder was missing the metal cup thingy under the window winder handle spacer so wouldn’t come off as it should and I had to prise out the pin/spring. Gave the inside bottom of the doors a good clean and a coating of rust converter. Will apply cavity wax next. Internals got a good oil and grease. Replaced both door locks as I didn’t have the keys to lock the doors. Got a couple of new seals to put on as well.

Someone was trying to get in for a cuddle.

Well the OS front suspension fought me all the way this afternoon. Especially the lower wishbone main bolt, it was well stuck. Got there in the end but thought I would have got both sides done.
