Two Tone Amazon Project 2-door

25 Attachment(s)
Hi Ya Folks

well most of you will know i have neared the end of my amazon white project so thought i would post a new build thread for a Two Tone california white & black roof 1965 Volvo Amazon , Two door with B18 + OverDrive fitted with some modern extras like the seat conversion which i will go into more depth in a week or so to help other members locate and modify it to fit correctly , also fitted the seat belts all handy info if you wish to go down this path with a amazon build.

but basicaly this car is being built to a good spec so it can handle modern motoring in comfort for example full electric seats ;) up/down/forward/back tilt but when we test fitted the interior it just looked fantatsic and so i have it documented we even made a custom rear parcel shelve which i will be fitting also in a week or so photos to follow then but it will have a rally look to this car with lots of bling ( yes the chrome dash i posted a few months back is going to be used in this build ) :star:

so a few images to kick this thread into start mode :broken_heart: the car does need a good clean as we pulled it out of dry storage and pushed it into my workshop to crack on with it :coffee:

i will have some fun with this build im sure along the way this is one of the cars that was rescued from chris harts yard in putney it had been started all re painted but due to being open to the elements it needed doing again and lots of parts was missing so we have got the bits needed and its time to get this one back on the road fit for use but this car will be for sale when its finished shortly in new year :)

Kind Regards

few extra images to go with this project some of the bling , and the custom door cards to suit the interior which is out of a c-70 i belive the two door newer volvo , fits real nice with the front seats having the levers to flip forward to allow the rear passengers access in and out ;).
wired up with full electrics working ( by a auto electrician ) not a job i fancied tackling incase them sip bags went bang on me but i had guessed the correct wires to hook up and the guy said call me on mobile in future as i could be talked through it saving a call out charge for a small job like that again in future better safe than sorry i said lol but will know for mk2 of this project :)

*******************************
******* wiring info ***************
*******************************

BIG black wire is the - earth both sides
and the

BIG green ( drivers side ) is the live feed + & Big green with black strip ( passengers side ) is that live + feed for that seat

Good luck with that one Robert. I think it is very hard to pull off getting modern seats to look good in an Amazon.

Looks like a good project you have there – I have a question for you though: how have you mounted the seat runners?

I have a pair of aftermarket seats in my Amazon and I’ve mounted them onto the original subframes using 10mm alloy bar to make up spacers as the runners on the new seat is wider than the Volvo subframe.

I’d like to be able to mount them a bit further back as I’m pretty tall and a bit more leg room would come in very handy. I can’t really tell from your pics how exactly you’ve gone about mounting the new runners onto the floorpan of your car... any info or extra images you could supply would really be appreciated.

(I think the seats look bang on by the way!)

Thankyou redcar they have come out real nice and feel smooth when you rub them like , now to answer the questions to get a pair of the door cards just have two new or very smart door cards and get some velvet grey material which can be covered to suit the style of the original cards but i think with the material and upholster costs it worked out £130 for the pair plud costs of the panels so not cheap but was needed to match the style of seats we had .

about the long things , they are rear panel cappings due to having a longer rear panel than is required from the c-70 so we scribbed them in and trimed back to use those cappings which where made out of wood they have now been trimed with a velvet material matching the seats to finish off the rear panels just where the front seat belts hang .
i will take images prior to fittment & when i fit them so its all explained i see odd posts about this conversion in the past and knew it was possible just never could find a detailed post so hence the way i will do this build thread stuff like this will be explained in detail to helps others.

The front seats had a custom plate made which was bolted to the old amazon seat frames by doing it this way non of the car was harmed in the process so all can be reverted back to oem :) , i will post better images by the weekend for you showing what has been used and i can take some diemsions down to share with everyone :)

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attach...1&d=1386459441

in the image above you can see the metalwork that has been bolted into the car and this is what will hold down the centre seat belts & rear headrests and stable`ize the rear parcel shelve ( with built in speakers ) all will become clear when i post on that section of the conversion ....

Thank you as well bud they do look fantastic but i have seen them all fitted including the rear parcel shelve and it blew my mind it just flowed so nice i will defo be doing another few projects like this again using the same system you wait till you see it fitted within the next few weeks !!
the only issue atm is the front drivers seat needs re upholstering and the guy we used for the door panels is due a op on his hip so i might have to take it over to my guy that did the white amazon seats ( red seats in my last build thread ) he is just as good but we always use a few so if we get let down by one we have a backup plan ;) a plan B is always a good thing

more on this should follow quickly after the weekend as im on carpentry work this week putting sides in on a barn it helps pay for my personal projects :) if only we did`nt need to worry about money hey ....

dunno Mitch, i have the C70 interior in my car and it looks pretty good imho. the fact the headrests are so recognisably Volvo, means most people think they are the originals.. (apart from you lot)

the front seats are bigger though, so egress from the rear can be a little unladylike..

as for this build, Robert, looks like its going to be pretty special.

123GT-AMAZON Dec 9th, 2013 19:52

yeah me and dad was sat there and i had been telling him i was wanting to try a c70 conversion low and behold we was called round to a amazon rescue and bought the car and what did the guy have on his drive a sweet looking c70 he said it was real nice but way way to expensive to run it so he was after the wheels and thats it game over for it so dad looked at me and said is that the interior i said yup before i could check me pockets he had done the deal and i was instructed to pull the interior out of the car on the spot and load it in the transit van :) was funny as hell we was like yeah lets have this part that part , parcel shelve yeah why not it is going to cost us no more money as we had the whole interior which to me was the lot ! so i wangled the dash trim off each side ( thankyou thats going in my estate as i will scribe it in and make a radio centre console to patch them together tastefully .
dad looked at me shall we have the seat belts yeah i said lets have them you never know least they will fit into the seats the rear headrest were complete pains to free off the donor car lol such fun was had it was unreal we was like a pair of kids in a sweet shop :) and this is the result a nice conversion which will all come together and hopefully fit the look of the car we aim for retro amazon with some bling fit to rally with comfort !

hopefully draw in some new blood on the amazon models as it will appeal to a younger driver but i would drive it with no qwarms

c70 interior

heres a few pics to whet your appetite.

I'm interested to see the rear panel cappings you had made up fit in, and how you overcome the gap between the smaller seat base and the body.. i just carpeted, but i'm sure there is a more elegant solution. in the background you can make out the speaker box sitting in the parcel shelf. It lines the back of the seats up to the window nicely..

123GT-AMAZON Dec 10th, 2013 18:48

nice share redcar it helps with photos so people see what it should look like ,some where in my photo collection i was sure i took some images when we test fitted the interior i was like i must capture that but can i find them .... nope not atm but i will keep hunting until i find them or i get to the stage of fitting it all in .
i need to make a full grey carpet set up next week and as soon as i have that done and fitted ( plus wiring loom ) i can then crack on with headling and windcreen/ rear screen to be at the stage of fitting the interior ;) it sounds a lot but wont take long few days and it will be that time when i can get on with it.

the gap you mention is indeed a head scratcher but with some clever scribbing it all comes together the only way to describe it is - it fits and looks like its the rear of a c-70 naturally but it is the same fitting needed as if you was bolting in one of them, everything just falls into place lot easier than the front seats they need (ed) a cuppa tea and a biscuit to get a plan of action then bingo we made some plates that extended the seat runners which bolt onto the oem front seat bases ;) there is 8m clearance init so no room for mistake it goes only in one postion for everything to work the worst part is the handbrake but once fitted it actaully gives you more belive it or not - rear footwell space as feet tuck under fine so its like airoplane cabin sitting postions lol all will be shown as soon as possible tho and im looking forward to that job ;)

yup, i had the same problems with the front seats. in the end i made squarish shaped mounts that went between the old mounts and the new seat bases too. i ended up removing all the plastic moulding and aluminium bracketing on the drivers seatbase to get adequate access to the handbrake. again, i then just covered the ugliness with carpeting.. looks ok, but i'm sure you'll do a nicer job, which i can then copy :)

Dibble Jan 4th, 2014 23:51

Hi Robert, I know you are a very busy fellow with the Amazons but I was wondering what your thoughts/progress were with the red 120 2 door from near Dundee. Do you think you will get it running again or is it likely to be a donor car?
As an aside there used to be, and perhaps still is a couple of Dutch guys who used to buy up the used/tired Amazons in Holland and restore them and put them back on the road. They had a good website but I have lost the details of it. I always thought you followed in their footsteps.
Keep up the good work. You might even be invited to the Palace some day and we might end up calling you Sir. 'For services to the Amazon'!!

Hi Ya Dibble

yeah the red 2-door amazon is in my workshop atm but as its as bad as what the white one was like , i need todo a few others first before i get stuck into it i have found a buyer all being well , it will be watched and followed with intrest by many people is all i will say at this point but i try to find the cars and then marry them up with the right owner if it fits then i will part with them if i get a funny feeling i will sideline it to be sure there all in safe hands rest assured the red two door will be on the road 100% just need to get my 123GT under control then finish my estate plus this two tone project and get my P1800ES started and naturally pay some bills along the way by doing some work on others cars :)

kind regards
