Me too. It's scandalous imo.

Totally agree. The majority of comments about Polestar say it improves the gearbox response. When I've paid >£50k for a car I expect the gearbox to be optimised already.

"the upgrade should at least also come with a substantial increase in power/torque.[/QUOTE]

It does give the car extra torque and the difference is pretty noticeable in the D4. For instance when the car is packed, the extra 10hp come handy. Yet, the smoothness of the gearbox is most noticeable as we (at least I am not) are not driving at top revs all the time... there is an increase in throttle response that makes the car feel different.

This said, I also don't understand why it doesn't come standard. I guess the answer is that marketing and sales know that some of the customers are always open and willing to pay for a "more exclusive/personal" experience. The badge sells as well...

When I mentioned this at my dealers I was told Volvo, along with most other car manufacturers, leave a "bit" in the optimisation so that in future they can claim they have "updated" a vehicle at a later date by giving it more power/response by simply doing the optimisation they should have done originally

I put Polestar on my V90CC D5 order,I asked the dealer not to install it at delivery. I'm running the car for a while as standard before having the software added, initially I said at the 3 month Quality inspection , though I don't think can wait that long.
On day to day driving the standard D5 is nice, it's very deceptive in it's speed because its so smooth you don't feel you are accelerating as quick as the speedo says you are.
The only thing I feel it's lacking is the overtake surge of power required to despatch loitering hatchbacks cleanly, which as I've previously been used to a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 it's probably more my perception than the cars fault. I just seem to remember my previous XC60 D5 polestar ( 5 cylinder) having better midrange pull. I'm hoping Polestar will beef up the midrange somewhat.

I am pleased with it as it is a bit like having dynamic mode in comfort without the increase in fuel and without the high revving.
I do agree with the comments on why I have had to pay extra to get the car as it should have been and I did take quite a while to process if I would go for it or not.
In the end I thought after paying many £££ for the car, what is a few hundred extra and the dealer did me a good price.
Probably exactly how Volvo predicted owners would think.
I would not be surprised if it is exactly the same team who do the original setup as Polestar.

Lots of the car companies are at it, playing games to maximise their margin. Unfortunately that is probably why things like electric cars are taking an age to develop as they will affect their cash cows. They do it slowly to fiddle tax laws with over priced hybrids instead, a bit at a time.
