I'd like to upgrade my last post.... C70 Solstice Lux model.. It's a fine car :)

XC60 R-design lux + goodies
This is the one for me, see signature below.

Volvo lost the plot when they put the engine in sideways.
|
Might just upset the applecart.....
Bought the C30 because I like the design, not because it was a Volvo. Would I buy any other model of Volvo.... Nope!!! And I actually like the fact that the C30 is built with Ford and Mazda ingredients. |
Xc60 but couldn't stretch to one with low miles and decent spec. V60 it is
|
if i was forced to buy one i would have any then sell it and buy a classic :) yeah thats true motoring for ya
and 30 years smooth hassle free motoring easliy if a good one is bought and maintained well wont go down in money , tax free , oddles of style and CHROME real Chrome with the change left over i would donate it to charity just to share the love now thats money well spent ;) all boxes ticked :) regards robert |
As I have never had a Volvo before I will have to say the XC60..............as I've just bought one!:kilt:

I did have a fun time on the Volvo website "designing" my "new" car the other week. Managed to "spend" £47,000 odd on an S80, and £52,000 on an XC 90both top spec with every daft extra going.......but honestly wouldn't actually buy either! |
Volvo V40 Cross Country
Just picked up a 13 month old V40 Cross Country D4 SE Lux Nav Auto in Silver, on behalf of my parents. Immediately drove it from Edinburgh to Orkney and I love it. Smooth, powerful, comfortable, different styling and seriously safe.
|
My vote is the XC60. Looks cool, plenty of room, not too big. V70 very nice, but too big for me. I shall be keeping my V50 for years!
|
Got to be an XC90 for me - the shear awesomeness of being able to drive the car easily up over and down anything has to make it a winner for me!
Do love the new styling of the V40 tho |
XC60 since that's what I recently bought and very happy with it.
|
My favourite current Volvo is the V90, I recently had one on long term loan from Volvo and was very impressed.
I like the latest XC90, but don't care for half size SUVs (XC60/Kuga or especially the V40CC), it's all about fashion...disappointed that Volvo are making cynical cars, but that is what needs to be done for growing market penetration - especially in the fleet sector. Jon. |

Would love a brand new XC60 but anything bigger would be difficult to manoeuvre around the lanes of the village. |
Double post !!!

My XC60 is perfect for moving around a family plus dog plus luggage. Nothing half sized about it.
I do like the look of the V90, lovely looking and very classy. |

Of course manufacturers are going to strive to make what the market wants / demands if they wish to sell cars and achieve the market penetration to which 'Prufrock' alludes.
Given the gestation period from concept to showroom of a motor car, I am surprised that they get it right as often as they do. It only needs a fuel crisis, change of administration, or similar and the best designed car can turn into a 'lemon' - in the wrong place at the wrong time. Life must be much easier for the chain store dress designer, where the product life cycle is measured in weeks rather than years! My preferred Volvo? Nothing current, I'm afraid, but my vote would go to a late model 965 / V90. Regards, John. |
Think I must be the only one who thinks the new v90 and s90 look a bit like a skoda superb- not that impressive for the price
|
Like the xc60 but my favourite is still our 2001 v40 t4 se lux that we had, brilliant car.
I wouldve voted for my v70 but the latest looks like a Passat too much |

I was in a Volvo dealer the other day ordering some paint for my mini V after some scrote has damaged it and I had a chance to have a proper look around the V90 and S90 and they are stunning pieces of design! However I came away surprised at the one I preferred. I always usually go for estates but the S90 looks nicer from the rear in the R-Design trim IMO, I'm not sold on the rear of the V90 and the loss of practicality from the V70 is a big put off and brings the car further away from the E-Class (still the king of estate cars IMO) and toward the A6, and 5er for interior size which is a little disappointing. They are stunning to behold though.
If I were interested in a new Volvo though I think the XC90 is the nicest of the new range in R-Design trim as it still has the majority of the looks and presence of the S & V cars but with proper Volvo practical touches. Also you can get a petrol engine in the XC which is not yet available on the others in the range. Am uploading the pics now, back soon! |
Back now :)
Here's the V90 they had in http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...pstyqq1ihu.jpg Personally I don't think the blue does much for it but it is nicer in person than it looks in the picture and I've been critical of Volvo's seemingly bland colour palette lately so it's good to see something different but if I were doing an order I think the solid red stands out more but both the red and this blue are expensive cost options! The interior is lovely, all the stuff you could want is standard but as is the way these days, the R-Design trim comes with the black roof lining which makes it very dark and the only way around it is to spec the glass roof which is disappointingly narrow and doesn't make a difference in the front as it starts behind the drivers head. http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps0oipylyb.jpg http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...psu56p2ljh.jpg You can see the extent of the curve of the tailgate and thus reduction in load space above the wasteline of the car though the power lid and auto retracting load cover are nice touches http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...pswnuvo219.jpg However even more striking despite the comparatively dull Saville Grey paint was this S90 http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...psikobovbv.jpg The wheels made up much of the difference, they are massive and really fill the arches! Boot is huge for a saloon and also power lift and close which is a nice touch http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...psk0pvmxhq.jpg It's a mean looker http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...psok3ay5hg.jpg And the two together http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...psl0eqwbdu.jpg Stunning machines buuuuut, on the other side of the showroom there was this which I think may be more suited to me :P http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...psy6wb4h0d.jpg Hell yeah!! If only it was a factory colour lol... |
Nice car.......... but:
Have you seen the price of them? What are Volvo saying to the current v70 owners? Is it hey cough up the extra cash? Most will move onto the v60? Or is it we don't care as we are trying to get the Mercedes & jaguar crowd- so hopefully the v70 lot will be brand loyal and go to the v60? It's a nice car but I think they have made a mistake as there isn't a direct newer model from the v70- which is a very practical affordable family car. Im not knocking the v60 as it's a nice car and one I'm considering myself but it's not a direct replacement for the v70 and neither is the v90 |
They aren't really that much more expensive than the V70 was in the higher spec levels and even the Momentum models have a hell of spec on them. Lease is the way to go with these, had a special offer quote come through on one £2400 down and £180 per month all in for an S90 D4 Momentum, £190 for the R-Design and £205 for the Inscription which is mega cheap for a near £40k car. 5k miles per year though but even 10k was something like £260 per month all in and 15k just over £300 with a £16 addition per month for the V90 which would make it cheaper than its competitors but that's a hell of a special offer!!
The V60 is soon to be replaced so hopefully that will grow also and take the place of the V70 to a point. |
Afraid I reaaly don't like either the S90 (which looks like an Audi A7 has had a fling with a Mazda 6) or the V90 (which looks some weird love child between BMW 5 touring, Mazda 6 and Kia Optima Estate). They have lost much of their 'Volvoness' with the sole exception of the strong shoulder line and rather sexy headlights. Also, what's this latest trend with wing mirrors sprouting from the doors rather than neatly integrated with the A pillar and window line? Yuk, yuk, yuk!
V60 is lovely though - especially the proper Polestar variant. |

they have lost the load carrying capacity to the likes of Mercedes. To be honest if I was to buy a new car it wouldn't be a brand new Volvo. I don't perceive them to be as reliable as say the rwd 200 and 700 series and built to last in this throw away era. It would probably be Toyota or lexus. Another thing I hate with modern cars is the huge deep dashboard. I like the extra space rather than a dash that hugs/envelops you. James:thumbs_up: |
I presume someone on here has one of the new V90's or S90 etc.?
The tablet built within the dashboard looks incredibly laggy and slow on the youtube reviews I've seen of the cars. If that's what it's like new, I can only imagine it'll get slower with age and added software patches! Yet it already looks slow enough to drive me mad! I presume someone on here owns one of these vehicles? Are the tablets/computers as slow and laggy as they look? Not that I'll be buying one, I'm just curious! haha |
I've not voted as I don't know what engine options are available, but if a decent sized petrol engine was available then of the options listed it'd have to be the S90.Having said that given money no object I'd buy something much, much older not newer.
|
Sadly there are no petrol options on the S & V90, only the XC90, though the T8 twin engine is rumoured to be coming soon. For now it's diesel power only with the D4 190 and D5 PowerPulse 235.

V70 3.2 of the latest specs
Hi, missing 6cyl (petrol) options in current Volvo portfolio.
So I'd go with V70 3.2 FWD of the end of the production. In red:) |

I can well understand all of you choosing pre-emmision control "analogue" era cars, life was just so much simpler then.
However the question was as to the current range, which compared to the competition all models have a welcoming feeling to them felt by driver and passengers alike. I am lucky enough to have a Polestar XC60 D4 R-Design, but that wouldn't be my ultimate choice - no, I would still choose the D5 XC60, manual 'box, and in R-Design Lux Navigation spec. The D5 has the edge in terms of character and on a daily basis is more economical too. For a D5 to match the performance of my lighter front wheel drive D4 it would also need the Polestar upgrade. What about the fabulous new XC90? Great car for passengers, but for me as a driver, I found it a worrying precursor of our clinically digital driving future, it simply lacks any driver appeal |
Stunning machines buuuuut, on the other side of the showroom there was this which I think may be more suited to me :P
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...psy6wb4h0d.jpg Hell yeah!! If only it was a factory colour lol...[/QUOTE] Is that superb mat red V40 a wrapped car? If done properly you can't tell the difference and it isn't as expensive as I thought either. |
Has to be the new S90.
Enormous looking thing compared to the old S80. |
The V40 is pink (poor lighting inside but it's actually Matt metallic Pink ;) It is wrapped, it's grey underneath :)
|
I'd love one of the new V90's as I have a 940 to match! Ish...
Gutted there's no petrol engine option. Bit rubbish really. Even the more powerful diesel one isn't that powerful compared to what the Germans make right now. |
None of them TBH. Some of them look nice & I appreciate the latest technology, but 4 cylinders just don't do it for me I'm afraid  The characterful 5-cylinder diesel is what attracted me to my current Volvo

Echoing many of the previous answers.
S70.. Do people who own newer volvos even know about the older ones. People try and take the **** out of my s70. They ask if it has air con or electric windows. Then I point out it has electric heated memory seats and thier 2015 ford focus doesn't, the laughs stop. I love my sunroof. I love the tick door windows sills where I rest my arm which have gone on the new volvos. The t5 engine sounds glorious. And still hammers most modern ****e in normal running conditions. The cable throttle or distributor never have electrical faults. It's crap on fuel but that's literally all new cars have on it. I'm being forced to move to an s60. It's safer and better on fuel but I doubt it'll still be out and about in 20 years. It won't bring as many smiles or be as easy to work on. We really have to consider if cars are moving in the right direction. |
