I think it's about time to change the cabin/pollen filter. I've ordered tonight so I'll get the compressor cranked up and blow this one out until it arrives

It is not in the most accessible location if it is the same as mine on my P3. Bent parts of my body not designed to be bent.

anything up in the footwell is a pain in the arse

a flexible extension on the tool helps

that filter certainly looks past it's best lol (also comes in white / i wish my girlfriend was this dirty, etc)

Let's not forget 4x4 has the luxury of a lift where he can bring the car up to waist height which makes the task so much easier

I took the V70 to its first Volvo meeting today at John Clark Volvo, Dundee. There must have been 40+ owners there, anything from a 240 to the V90 and everything in-between. The dealership provided bacon rolls, coffee and cold drinks, the mechanics put some of the cars on the ramps to let owners have a look underneath.

There were twin engine electric vehicles which we had the use of and I have to admit the V70 2.5SE is a slow old thing compared to these cars, push the loud pedal and you get thrown backwards at great force.

The V70 drew a fair bit of attention, here are some pictures other Volvo owners took

Nice collection of motors by the looks of it. Your V70 sure is a tidy bit of kit!

The electric stuff is in a completely different league but, if this is the shape of things to come, I like where it's going.

New cabin filter arrived, less than 10 minutes to change it, I could have been quicker but my fingers were freezing and I dropped the screws a few times...

Turned my DRLs off with Vida, why did Volvo not keep the 850 system where you could press a tiny button on the headlamp switch to alternate between on and off, finding it in Vida for the V70 was a PITA.

Next I removed the rusty looking bonnet safety catch and my plan was to clean it up and give it a coat of paint.

I put the catch in an ultrasonic bath and left it for 5 minutes, then another 5 minutes and another 5 minutes, once removed there wasn't much difference so all the Youtube videos must be telling porkies.
Into the vice and some emery cloth did a better job then into the sink with steel wool and that was when plan B took place.

I decided rather than paint it a better long term solution was to cover the catch with Lanoguard grease. This isn't a grease for lubrication, it is used on nuts and bolts on the underside of the vehicle to prevent the threads getting rusty. I heated the grease in the microwave (SHMBO was out) and applied it with a brush then lubricated the pin with some 60w oil. Once refitted to the car I used a hairdryer to heat and even out the grease

The rusty catch has caused some marks on the bonnet, I tried to remove them but was unable, the Lanoguard grease will prevent any further reaction between the two surfaces

My S80 catch was less rusty overall but was sticking in the open position so used some low temp grease to fee it out and coat the surface. Still has a nice action 4 years on.

An old piece of clay bar might pull off a lot of that oxidisation if it's bugging you

Thanks Baffler, the Lanoguard will prevent any further degradation between the two surfaces.
