Thanks Puffster!
Yep, treating those trims made a massive difference to the overall look of the car, and it took some time but was worth it. I also got out yesterday morning and wasn't happy with the finish from the course polish I used, so gave it another go over with BlackFire Gloss Enhancing Polish before sealing it, and it got even better! However after doing 150+ miles today with a mix of motorway and muddy country A roads, it looks terrible again already!!! Cheers, Nick |

And here's how it looked after those extra hours refining and sealing the paintwork...although you wouldn't know it now after almost two weeks and 1k miles through rain, snow, sleet, flooded and muddy country roads!!!

Finally got round to painting calipers.

Slow puncture rather random in going up/down, so took it to Kwik-Fit yesterday. As I was pumping up said tyre, when I took the pump off air came rushing out, so put the nozzle back on and next time took it off, air didn't rush out. K-F couldn't find a puncture but got them to swap the valve out just in case, so will monitor & see what happens.

Not long had my XC70 D4 (1969cc Version). Really like it so far, especially comfort, 8 speed auto, and build quality. Fitted some GE 120% brighter H7 bulbs, so easy when you can extract a headlight in 5 minutes. Previous car (BMW) had LED headlights, which I missed.

Had my 2011 V70 D5 12 months nearly now and only done just under 8000 due to a number of reasons, usually do around 14000. Anyway did the first oil change today as the weather was good, Volvo filters, 0w30 castrol edge from Volvo and the while lot was still cheaper than the local motor factors with the discount. I did get some discount at Volvo!
Bought 4 new clips for the side skirts as they were missing around the jack points, need painting to blend in as there white and then putting on. There not visible but I will know. Car is now ready to cruise down the south of France in July, if I do enough miles maybe a pre trip oil change. |
Bought a Red 2014 SE NAV D2. Be seeing more of you in here.
|
Updated Sensus Sat Nav maps via USB and blew the tyres up after the TPMS complaining the two front ones were low.
|
New Brembo rear disc and pads, one rear bearing felt tight and notchcy so changed that as well.
Pads had approx 70% left but one disc was scored. They were Volvo gen discs and pads. Hopefully cure the rust particles appearing on one rear wheel. |

I swept the snow off my Volvo today!

Does that help? |
Friday: Replaced blown H7.
Saturday: Received rear hatch PCB closer in the post from Russia. Will install soon. Sunday: Pressure washed the salt and grime off the car, put a new wiper blade on, loaded some more music onto the HDD. |

Installed my rear hatch closer PCB today. Managed to break several clips and a lug on the rear panel itself just like what used to happen on 850's of old. However, I can now close the hatch from the comfort of the front seat.

I had a retrieved what I thought was a Karcher pressure washer trigger and a lance from the local pub's skip about 5 years ago and with the lance part blocked and the trigger still working I assumed it was a yellow Karcher. So I decided to buy a Karcher foamer and attach it to the trigger BUT alas it wasn't a Karcher after all and the foamer doesn't fit the lance or my my Macalliester 2 trigger either. So, some digging later I ordered a Bosch/Macallister to Karcher adaptor which all now works and I have a very white car. The suds left on the ground lay about a very long time. I can't imagine what is in the detergent.

Fitted the above, like my gadgets and do not like not having a temp gauge. |
That might be a reasonable add-on. It's not really an HUD unit but I have tried real HUDs and they just don't display adequately on the windscreen in all lighting conditions. This makes no attempt to project an image and is just a mini screen powered by the OBD2 system. So long as the choice of displayed information can be adequately customised, it could be made to serve as whatever auxiliary instrument gauge that you needed. Sadly my experience is that the build quality of these Chinese devices is poor and they don't last very long.

Lots of colours to choose from for the display and there is allot of data to choose from to show. So far so good. |
@Waynedance, does the OBD2 dongle stay in the socket all the time and does it draw power when the ignition is off?
You could of course use the Torque app for your phone which give you a lot of info and is cutsomisable too. It can also log all your data too. |
I did plug in an old phone and used an app to bring on the phone screen when it saw the obd2 Bluetooth dongle but the phone looked out of place.
The item I bought stays plugged in and automatically powers on the screen when the car is unlocked and again powered off after the engine has been switched off so all good. |
Fitted the third incarnation of Evgeny's remote tailgate module. It now works. There seems to be a need to keep the button pressed until the tailgate starts to move down but this can be seen as a safety feature minimising the possibility of a guillotine effect of the descending tailgate on unsuspecting passersby!
I like this mod , especially for use from the dashboard tailgate button. It came as standard on some of my daughter's cars in the USA and I was always jealous. |
Updated latest 2018 maps via USB in armrest.
Took a few hours and needed the ignition to be regularly switched on as the system automatically switches off after a while...bringing up a low battery warning... Took it for a blast for a few miles while it finished updating, but the screen just showed the message ‘Navigation, please wait’, however after completely switching the ignition off, and starting the car up about 45 minutes later, all is good 👍 |
Today I changed my oil & filter, air filter, pollen filter & fuel filter. Also re gassed the air conditioning. Used Comma Voltech oil 0/30.
Got an air con cleaner but not used it yet. I wrongly thought it was Mann filters that Volvo used but its Mahle, Oh well Mann filters are a known good brand. |

Bulb holders and led bulbs turned up for interior and map lights, a much more modern look.

Had my Caniculars refurbed at The Wheel Specialist, in light gunmetal with matt lacquer.
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/pictu...ictureid=10706 https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/pictu...ictureid=10707 The centre caps polished up like new using my Meguiars headlamp cleaning kit. Put the wheel bolts in a vice and cleaned up with wire brush attachment on drill. They look like brand new Volvo wheels now - I'm very pleased :) I do like my after-market alloys (see winter wheels below) but there's no doubt in my mind it's worth paying to restore Volvo originals. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/pictu...ictureid=10708 |

Car had the clay treatment, Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Autoglym extra gloss protection. Followed by refreshments. |

Presumably those Canicular wheels were just fitted to SE Lux models ? Have you had your's refurbed, or just very well looked after ? |
Looks like a previous owner has had them painted at some point.
Really like the wheels, was going to get some new aftermarket but they look so good. How much did you pay to get your wheels painted? |
Volvo specs seem to be hit and miss, a brochure I read said the S80 SE lux all came with the full sovereign hide leather yet I see lots with the cheaper leather faced seats.
Seen an advert on eBay that does a like for like swap on refurbing Volvo alloys. It would be a gamble on the quality of the paint job. |
Missing a rubber mount from the engine cover, new set fitted.
|
Fitted a £6.97 (e-bay) glass to the N/S door mirror as the original one became unstuck and fell out when Mrs shut the door.
I say came unstuck - it has literally from the heated back pad. Anyone else had this? |

It really was the full works though. Chemical strip, sand blast, repair, power-coat, bake, lacquer, bake etc....oh, and tyres refitted and wheels balanced of course. My only negative comment was that some of the worst corroded areas (around the bolt holes) still look pitted under the paint (only if you look close). Apparently this refurber never uses fillers as they can cause issues when baking the power coat. They prefer to take metal back to smooth surface. I can see their point from a technical perspective. I think I've seen those ads on eBay. Maybe they're OK ? Now that I seen how the pros do it, I'd be really picky about choosing somewhere. They should have a shot booth, paint booth and kiln, and be happy to show you round ;) I agree the Caniculars look really good. I hadn't seen many variants when I got my V70, but now very glad I got the SE Lux as I prefer these to all other Volvo wheels. And yes, the sovereign hide leather is fantastic. |
