I've just been out to try but no luck. It doesn't appear to be able to go all the way in, and the indicator never changes.

I think my lack of understanding of how it is supposed to work also hinders me.

Am I supposed to be able to fit it with the latch protruding? Is it meant to retract when the indicator is red? If so, what mechanism makes it go green when you fit it?

Here's a link to assist with your understanding (wrong car but correct destructions)

The latch protrudes at all times until retracted by the locking wheel upon removing the bar from the receptor.

Mine wouldn’t work when I got the car as the receptor had rust build up. Took it off the car and cleaned it out and all good.
Suspect that’s also your problem.
180 degree key rotation is correct

Yes, that's the intructions form the car's manual. I can do steps 1 & 2 but not 3.

When I put my bar into the receptor, I turn the plastic wheel, put the bar in half way, let go of the plastic wheel and push the ball down. It then locks with a loud "clonk", and the green segment shows up.

Ok, so, having a good bit of investigation yesterday...

When the lock handle is in certain positions, more towards the indicator sticker, if I push it into the ground with all my weight, the pin moves slightly in.

When I place it in the receptor, and look underneath, I can kinda see that if you could push it hard enough (estimating 100+Kg) it would push the pin back far enough that it would slip over the bar at the back of the receptor and lock in place.

Still can't figure out how that would make the handle turn to green...

But either way, I can't sit on the ground and push 100+Kg horizontally, especially not with my aching thumb joint. I've tried standing on it, kicking it, but short of trying to back the car into a wall, I don't know what else I can do.

Thanks

Found this video:

Now, I don't know the woman in the video, and she coulld potentially able to push 100Kg one-armed, but it doesn't look like she does.

I will still maintain that without moving the indicator to "Red", I will never be able to fit this.

It's a bugger when you get beaten by what should be simple engineering.

It's a shame you are not nearer. I'd love to have a look at it in case a 2nd pair of eyes could locate why it's will not work.

Well, by the license plate, that's a Volvo demo with a brand new car. But still, it's similar to what I do, and my car is for sure not new any longer.

Hi again,

Does anyone know what these arrows on the handle refer to? I can in-fact push the handle down in certain positions, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Thanks.
