IMO they were introduced for the caravanners, especially as it was offered with the M90 'box, and everyone knows the slushmatic seems to poo itself if towing anything heavy (like a caravan) up a long incline.

Slightly sneakily though, Volvo fitted the ridiculous 4.1:1 diff, meaning 0-60 times weren't too much slower than the 3.0's, however at the expense of being at 3,000rpm at 70mph.
For comparison, my 940 Turbo would sit at 70 at a more reasonable 2,250rpm.

Cheers

What diff was in your 940 Turbo ? I'm sure mine is higher than 2,250rpm at 70

No cat and no Lambda usually means LH2.2, can't make out the MAF clearly enough to see if it has a mixture screw on it, even blanked by an anti-tamper cap.

Looks like it's had replacement injectors as well.

3.31 or 3.54 I think. Also had the "H" M90, so 5th was 0.70:1.

Cheers

Using the pretty awesome website: https://www.blocklayer.com/rpm-gear.aspx

We can see that it's about right.
What's yours at? Is yours an auto or manual?

Without checking i'm sure its closer to 2750rpm at 70. Mine is a 3:54 Diff M90. I'm pretty certain 940 saloon's came with a 3:31 diff though

Intersting that your 940 saloon was also a 96 car which is the same as mine. I thought H2 and L2 M90 boxes were introduced in 97. The H1M90 was 0.81:1 in 5th

Yes, I thought they were too. Maybe it had a transplant at some point, I couldn't honestly say. Was definitely less than 2,700 @ 70mph though.

Cheers

If it was a 3:31 diff it would be closer to 2500rpm at 70

Ha, yeah. Wish I had that dif in my current 960 to replace the ridiculous 4.1:1 it currently has!

Cheers

The 3.54 diff gives the results you're getting, just tried it with my slightly different gear ratios but 3.54 diff and 4th @ 0.7:1 and 70mph is ~2300rpm (forgot the exact figure already) but my speedo registers ~77-78mph at a true 70mph. Aside from that, it gave identical results.

But a 96 car should gave an H1M90 box which has a 5th gear of 0.81:1 which would give you 2750rpm at 70 with a 3.54 diff
