Thanks ITSv40.

Fingers crossed it gets easier form here. Car left last night. They are saying 3-5days for it to make it back home... SO its a wee way off till I know more. |
a full head off strip down will be required. putting on a cambelt to try and turn it over will be a waste of time . you will need a full cambelt kit and aux belt and all tensioners and pulleys and water pump do it right do it once .check the alternator pully is not seized. if in any doubt replace it.

From current posts about the flooded car it sounds as if Volvomax in Glasgow might be able to come to your rescue. About 50 miles away but specialise in our cars. They may already have a head they can service to do a quick swap over. Depends on your plans and wallet I guess.

UPDATE!
Well, several months (and thousands) later and its nearly back! As I mentioned before, the original water pump had collapsed. This caused the belt to jump. Head came off as there was no compression. Valves knackered. The head has been to the machine shop and had new valves and guides. All cleaned up and tested. All good. Its been in with Craig Moncrieff in Edinburgh and they have rebuilt it. Crank case vent pipes all replaced etc. I should have got it back today but at the last moment I realised it needed an MOT. It passed that today with no advisories. I should get it back tomorrow, if I get a moment. I am Looking forward but sadly it will be short lived as it will finally go up for sale. Despite all the work, it still does not change the fact its not LEZ compliant (but an XJR is, madly) I just figured it still had years of service to give and why not fix it up so it can do that. Seemed a shame to break it over a few bent valves. Will try to get a pic up when its back, why not. |

What are you going to get to meet LEZ criteria? |
Thanks Kev0607. I am really pleased its fixed and will live on.
I have, meanwhile, bought a Jaaag. Slightly more modern era car to meet the emissions zones requirements. I stuck with the R theme though. Got a 2014 XJR. So far, it too has been a lot of fun, even if I cannot get as much in the boot! |

They are not too bad! Cheers.
Its another silver understated car. I will miss the V70, I have to say. I really hope it goes to a good how where it will be used and cherished. Ad for it now up on Facebook. Meanwhile, the XJ sleeps peacefully... |
