What are your views on Rototest equipment? (www.rototest.com)
I believe there are very few companies in the UK who use Rototest equipment (I presume due to the high cost of purchasing one) but there is one in London:

Hi Phaap

Have no experience of the rototest RR so cannot comment on them i like the fact that the DD rolling roads have a link with DD head quaters so that they would always be able to tell if a given power figure has been made to look better!!!!.
Basically when the RR is placed in shoot out mode it cannot be changed.

These TDI people....I like their style...:)

I believe MTE/TME used rototest for the development of there software.

That is indeed the kit that MTE have. As well as TDI in Barking, there is a company in one of the Medway towns and, I understand a couple of others further north. An associate Company of Ferrita also have Rototest equipment, but they are principally Saab tuners, although Ferrita use it, along with their in-house RR to develope their exhausts.

There is also a hub dyno made in New Zealand by Dynapack: Abbey Motorsport in Surrey have a Dynapack 4wd set-up. Myself, pyapp, Stuart Williams and some others took our cars there a couple of years ago. We found their figures very similar to those obtained at Power Engineering and Well Lane in Batley.

We did find Abbey Motorsport to be expensive.

I know what you mean. Tried one of those Civic 'Type R's' a while back, and bu**er me you had to be 2 gears lower than normal (for the road speed) to get any useful urgency out of it.
The RX8 is the same. Very smooth but you need to have it over 5000rpm to get it going. Which means you need stupidly long stretches of road to get any pace from it.
Didn't like it. :(

I saw the Abbey Motorsport Dyna Pack set up a couple of years ago when I went to have a look at Stuart Williams' 850R doing a session as I have observed quite a few sessions over the last few years in the South East. They did some real time mapping with his car which was interesting to watch. Ashok's car ran as well, however I didn't have the time to stay to watch.

I've used my local rolling road eight times over the last few years with very consistent results that reflected the car's development as I modified her. Funnily enough on the first session she produced 245 BHP at the crank (standard is 240). After putting a stainless 3" downpipe, sports cat and cat back she produced 249BHP at the crank. The small change in BHP did not reflect the fantastic change in engine response and the turbo spooling up so much faster. I left it until last year to chip her getting 269 BHP at the crank. Small changes that look insignificant on paper (4bhp) can make such a difference in a practical context!

Hey IC, that sounds great. Mine needs to get to 3000rpm before starting to move, which I think needs improving - expect it's the spool up time that impacts the response.

Did you measure the torque changes and the revs at peak, etc. too? (I suppose I mean, have you the graphs?)

Hi, here's the graphs. The first shows both the pre and post downpipe curve together for comparison. The second shows pre and post chip curve for comparison. In my experience the downpipe makes a big difference, however it's the combination of chip mod and downpipe that really makes the difference! Sorry for the quality of the photos - just moved house so need to re-photograph the charts to make them clearer (when I find 'em!).

I too am on the mission to get into the 300bhp zone - check out my site to see the mods I've done - doesn't seem that easy !

There's a few graphs on there as well if there is any interest.

Does anyone else know of a accurate 4wd dyno in London bar Abbey, and what cost was it IC to class it as expensive?

Gary.
