Very nice! My first 740GLE was the same/similar colour and that was called Blau-Grun or Blue-green in English, wouldn't put it past Volvo to change the name of the same colour though! :nah:

I do like those wheels, sometimes think about a set of those for my 760.............

Yes, last two cars as I can't think of anything I'd prefer over these (except maybe a 960\S90 LWB Royal, or a white 850R saloon to replace the 850R estate - but only one of those was sold in the UK...). So pretty much unicorn cars lol.

Its early days re planning out the 940's future - I haven't even seen it yet as its 300 miles away :D It looks superb in the advert though, so fingers crossed.

Here are some more pics from the advert -

I think I still have some 940 parts in the garage - I know I have the engine undertray so if that is missing I'll fit my old one. I never knew all Celebrations were estates - thanks for that info, you learn something every day. I haven't had a 900 car for many years, so I need to relearn much of what I knew before - and I'm sure much has changed, such as parts availability...

No doubt I'll be asking various questions once I get the car, so please bear with me.

In the meantime, I have lots of excited sleepless nights as I can't collect it until after next week's rail strike!

I would keep the wheels standard on a car with that provenance. As much as I prefer Galaxys and Polaris I kind of feel they wouldn't look right on this car.

It's a distinguished Gentleman of a Volvo not a chavvy oik :teeth_smile::teeth_smile:

Pah, rip that slushbox out and M90 it with a stainless exhaust and and and... I completely agree with you which is very unusual for me to want to leave a car standard! I would suggest maybe these wheels that I don't know the name of as I'm not a fan of those ones personally.

But it is your car so do whatever you want with it :)

With a car like this, much of the value and provenance is in keeping it standard, or at least any mods should be unseen e.g. an HPT actuator on the turbo for a bit more grunt which would only be visible to someone who knew exactly what they're looking for.

I am curious, if it's a UK car for the Danish Embassy and therfore RHD, how come the speedo is calibrated in kmh instead of mph? Do you know or is it one of the quirks of the car that you'll find out about eventually?

The Danish embassy staff were probably more familiar with Km/h and whilst not ideal in a country with speed limits posted in MPH it’s not like diplomats would actually pay any speeding fines.

From what I can ascertain, it was ordered in and collected from Stockholm, and then directly imported into the UK. I'm wondering if the car was significantly cheaper in Denmark (I remember Brits buying RHD cars in the Netherlands, as cars were so much cheaper over there), or if there was a policy of only buying embassy cars in Denmark? All assumption really lol.

As far as I can tell (looking at the spec, including those wheels), its an LPT GLE - but the import docs only state Volvo 940. Hopefully it'll become clearer when I collect the car and get all the documents.

Re the wheels, the ones currently fitted are 'Aries' 15x6 and were std on the GLE spec. The wheels you mentioned 360beast are 'Nova' 15x6 and were fitted to the 960 - the pic below is my old 965 which was a fabulous old bus

I get what you're saying but i'm thinking about grey import vehicles, they need a speedo either changed to mph or with markers on it for the various speed limits to pass the test for use on our roads - think it was called the SVA but is now something different. As this car had a kmh speedo from new but was UK supplied, how do they get round the speedo displaying in mph?

EDIT - Just seen your reply about it being ordered in Denmark, that would explain it all and cover the legalities of the speedo!

Beautiful car!! I for one like the Aries wheels. I’ve got ‘em on my diesel 940 GLE and they really suit the car. I know nothing of astrology but I *think* I’m an Aries too (born 19/04/81 if anyone knows!) which is an entirely irrelevant but pleasant coincidence 🤣

I noticed in your sig pic you’ve named it Gunnar-after the late, great Gunnar Nilsson by any chance?
