ive just done mine on 06 v50 sport geartronic deisel
the car was running ok and pulling well up to 3000 rpm but if I tried to kick it down nothing happened ,and the service light came on ,now ive done the mod to it the car is totally different, to do the mod on mine was quite easy but did involve taking the injectors out and removing the fuel lines ,to get to the swirl flaps and they were covered in soot so a good clean up and a 2mm hole drilled in the connecting rod for the pin (engine end only)total parts cost from Volvo
£12.20 swirl arm ,pin and washers,5 injector washers, and a trip to a mates to get the service light off
all sorted car back to its old power

Hi sorry for butting in here. I have this problem. So the plastic bit that's connected to the manifold, is that supposed to be loose and move in and out freely? It seems that the black switch only moves a fraction. So it's just a slight click. But the bit that it is meant to be joined to moves alot so I'm thinking it isn't meant to move some much? Could it be broken? Or am I just meant to connect them back together with the rod?

Hi,

I've a EURO4 185bhp V70 Mk3. The swirl arm lever keeps detatching at the engine end. The actuator is working fine.

Is there any way to stop this happening? Is that what the Volvo repair kit is for?

Thanks,

David.

Hello Tommyzoom, I am sorry to write in an old topic, just wanted to ask did you or anyone solved this problem? Mine swirl arm has been disconnected in the engine side, there is some leaking there also, but the thing that worries me is there a way to tell if the sirl flap inside did lose its connection with the plastic joint outside?!! It moves very easy but in controlled manner up and down, not side to side... Any help appreciated.

I have a MY09 D5 (think that Euro 4). Where should I be looking for the swirl arm, and what does it look like?

Interested to see if mine is hanging in there after nearly 10 years.
