Heater fan problem
Thanks for replies. My fan is on all the time full blast. Turning the knob doesnt change anything.
My mechanic took the fuse out to stop it. have got away without it during the summer but need to get it sorted now. I am attaching what I see when I try the link. |

That post from Carlos seems to have been deleted. Option number 1 is to buy a new unit and hope it works. Option 2 is what carlos did, where he took out the resistor unit and replace the MJ802 transistor which costs a few pounds. That will involve unscrewing the transistor and soldering two wires on the new one. Easy job if you know how to solder. MJ802 can be bought online and possibly Maplins. Here is one I found online but there are many more websites selling it http://www.donberg.co.uk/descript/m/mj_802.htm Option 3: I have a spare one that you can try on your. You don't have to remove the old unit in order to test the one I have. Just unplug the cable and plug it on the replacement one. Put back the fuse your mechanic pulled out. Turn the car and see if the heater/blower behaves itself. If it doesn't work, then send the resistor back to me. If it does you can keep it for £15 +£2pp. Then you will have to remove the old resistor out and replace it with mine. IT is held with two screws. One is very easy to get out. The other one is trickier to get as it is hidden. Will post a photo tonight of where the resistor is

Heater reply
Thanks for your reply Gatos. I can now see which part needs looking at. I will have a look online for the part. Your seat belt guide is very helpful too. That is my next job.

Are you going to buy the transisor and replace it in the resistor? If yes, then you could make a nice guide of how to do it. If you are after the whole resistor unit, then try mine

tricky operation - help
OK, so I have bought the transistor. I have borrowed a soldering iron. I have managed to get both screws off the damn thing without doing my back in. Now the unit is loose I still cant remove it because the glove compartment is in the way. Am i supposed to change the transistor with it still in the car? Also do i need to use heatsink past? Any answers welcome.

heater transistor removal
had another look and there is no way you can get at the transistor without removing the unit from the car. The unit is snug in it's housing so there is little room to wiggle it out. I am stumped.

The whole resistor has to come out. There is a metal bar attached on the bottom of the console with 3 screws(I think they are 3) blocking your access to the top screw. You will need to loosen the console from the passenger side and pull it an inch or 2.
Or an easy way, is to remove the glovebox and make a small hole on the rear plastic of the console where the top screw is roughly located. You can then undo the screw and remove the resistor. When you put back the glovebox, you won't be able to see the hole.
