bearings in alternator?
ive had a sort of metal rubbing whining noise coming from the pulley area the past week from my 01 diesel s40.its suttle at idle gets loud between 1200-1400 and disappears after 1500rpm. so i took the belt off last night and the alternator sounds terrible spinning it by hand so i assume its the bearings? or could it be the overrun clutch pulley??
if it is the bearings anyone know what bearings are in the valeo sg12b017 125amp diesel alternator? ifthe bearings have gone in my alternator i dont see the point in buying another one when the bearings are so cheap . found a nice site that sells bearings (http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/) but want to keep car on the road (and off for as little time as possible) any advice would be great. finding it hard to find one. can get one for 50 off a laguna.
just to update though, its stopped making the noise today. so im a bit confused. should i be worried about it if the noise has gone?? and if the noise is gone does that rule out the bearings? gonna change the belt tomorrow anyways. |

It really would be worth your while replacing the alternator before it lets you down, you could keep your old alternator and refurbish it and keep it as a spare. Try these guys, http://www.1stchoice.co.uk/ULogin.aspx?S=1 |
