LOWERING/RAISING CLAMPS:

http://www.rtecshop.com/?p=product_view&product_id=2271

I don't want a permanent solution, because 6 months of the year I want car lowered, come winter time, studded wheels go on and I want my car back to standard height to clear snow. Depending on the snow, it would be nice to even raise the car!

Anyone used them? Think they are dangerous? Are they just for shows or are they legal to drive with?

Hmm I think it would put undue stress on the springs as the force isn't spread over all of the spring.

Perhaps get slightly lower springs, but then fit those 'spring assister' rubber inserts that are used for towing vehicles in the winter so that the suspension doesn't bottom out?

Or you could just get adjustable coilovers if you NEED to ride heights - which would also help as you can adjust the damper settings in summer/winter?

.....in the sixties there was a company that sold springs like that near Brands Hatch race circuit they would squash the spring and weld the twin coils together, it was an easier and cheaper option to having shorter ones....i suppose you could always do the same with them on the car, but no good really for going back to normal ride height.....just an idea!..

I wouldn't touch those with a bargepole. By either compressing or extending the springs, you will end up with a setup that does not progress evenly as the suspension loads/unloads. Given that the shock absorbers were developed to work with consistent spring ratings, that will be buggered as well. I'd leave well alone.

they also add stress points to the springs, where there shouldnt be stresses <snappy snap time in short order.

Dont do it!!

Seeing your new 18 pics my advice would be this, do like i did and only lower the front except where i went 40mm you go 25mm or 30mm max.

I had some of them 20 years ago.

Pain to fit, not that effective, and as others have said probably upset the dynamics and unduly stress the spring.
