An update:

2008 V70 D5 185 Geartronic.

Increase in oil level (over max) between previous service and receipt of DPF recall letter from Volvo was 20+ mm over 1930 miles.

Increase in oil level over next 1600 miles following software update and fresh oil (my choice and my cost) absolutely nil.

Conclusion: Software update has stopped fuel injection system squirting too much neat fuel into DPF and diluting oil in sump.

Default Diesel particulate filter and rising oil levels discussion

There are a number of threads scattered around the various boards for the models affected and it has been suggested to keep the discussion here as the issue is particular to the engines and not the cars.

All the other discussions are indexed in that thread and can be linked to from there to read the previous discussions. If you know of any other discussions let me know and I will add them to the list.

Hi Kev,
Suggest you start a new thread mate.
This one's getting clogged up on the oil and DPF issue as it is!

Hi everyone,
Has anyone got anymore input for this thread?
Have you had the software upgrade done, and has your oil level stopped rising?
Also, has anyone got anywhere with getting your dealer to change the oil FOC?
Thanks,
Nick.

Default Update failed first time

V70 D5 (185bhp)

Had the upgrade done 6 weeks ago. Oil level seemed fine over the next 600 miles of local journeys plus a few 50 mile trips. Then drove almost to Scotland (from the south) and service light came on. Popped into Carlisle Volvo (Lloyds) who said the oil level had increased as the update hadn't worked. Did an oil and filter change and forced regen of DPF on the spot and sent me on my way - no charge and most helpful.

1,000 miles later after lots of local driving and the trip back down south and fingers crossed it's ok.

Having previously had the software update and oil level reduced, the oil rose again from the "suggested level" back up to the MAX mark.
Took car in, dropped oil ( at Volvo's cost) and another software update
and new decal showing new oil level.
Lets see what happens next!!!!
