Default air con compressor siezing.

A question for those that hopefully know, when the con compressor siezes what actually does sieze? Is it the compressor shaft or the clutch assembly?

I ask as last night I assisted a mate to strip the clutch assembly from the air con compressor of his range rover, potchy but doable despite it being a non serviceable part and compressor and clutch assembly being north of £500 to buy.
His problem was the clutch bearing, after stripping it, it was evident that a replacement bearing could be fitted, although the use of a lathe would make it easier.

Just wondering if anyone had found a way around the Volvo air con seizing problem and if it was anything similar?

Paul.

On a P2, a replacement pulley bearing is cheap to buy and easy but slightly awkward to fit.
Don't know if P3s are any different.....

It was the clutch that seized on my 2007 D5.

Has anyone managed to repair the bearing or clutch separately? Just disconnected the belt to mine because its rattling like a bucket of nails. Disturbed to see replacing the compressor costs £400+. Searching for a secondhand one ...

May not be any good but a quick Google turned up these guys who may be able to help http://www.nwideuk.com/bearings/automotive-air-con.asp

Or these http://automotivecompressor.co.uk/ep...tegories/Volvo

I could be wrong but 5 mins on the internet has led me to believe that the unit is this: http://automotivecompressor.co.uk/ep.../Products/1267 aka a Zexel KC-88. If that is correct, then the next piece of the jigsaw is... the bearing is likely to be a 35x52x20??? http://euro-klima.pl/en/p31315453-kompresor-volvo.html

I would go for a repair/refurb...buying a used one leaves you in the position of simply not knowing its age, mileage of the vehicle it came from or how likely it is likely to keep going.
