Is it me or does this look a bit too good to break?🧐

Although I fear it’s too late.
I'm pretty sure we've seen that car in this hallowed portal some time ago for sale as a whole. Quite a while back now so maybe some numpty bought it and forgot to check the oil and it had a leak so said numpty lunched the engine. Or perhaps it was written off for something we can't see in the pics. Who knows?

Oh dear - i've seen this symptom before on the Rover 800 forum where people become serial/multiple owners of a particular model, even if it doesn't fit their original criteria.

It's a nice one but two faults need immediate attention, first is the fuel pump wiring, whoever did that is asking for a fire!

Second, not quite so important but necessary for correct running etc is renewing the collapsed breather hose from the oil filler cap to the air filter.

I'd also suggest at least 3 ATF part-changes using Carlube ATF-U or NAPA MVA using the oil transfer pump down the dipstick tube with the back end on ramps to remove the old fluid and dirt.

Other than that, it looks pretty good.................

Dave, I may have symptoms of Volvoitis, 😀😀 but I can resist as it’s a saloon, if it had a shed on its back, then that would be another matter.

However a decent 145 estate at a reasonable £5-6k is the proverbial rocking horse poop😀😀

Cheers

On the face of it, it does look a nice period correct example.

In addition to what laird scooby pointed out, there are no mud flaps either front or back - the rear flaps missing would suggest rot in the rear wing below and behind the rear arch, a common rust area. The front seats have been reupholstered, but poorly executed. The seat squab should have the cover pulled down tight between the fourth and fifth row of fluting from the front. - to form a nice low 'bowl' to sit in, not the level surface as presented. The backrest should be similarly formed. Apart from the non standard fuel pump attached to the inner wing under the bonnet the washer bottle is not original - it should be a square bottle with a black pump sitting on the top. The fact it is an auto with single carb will make it very, very, pedestrian.

The seam rust highlighted around the rear light and lack of mudflaps would suggest there could be extensive rot under the presentable paint. The interior colour is the exact same as my first 145S with dark blue exterior - it did look rather nice when polished up.

This is how the seats should look.

I guess the writing off is less important than the overall condition Steve. It is on the dear side, even though it’s RED.
This time next year we’ll think it’s cheap!🧐

The blacked out reg won’t help the sale.
