S40 V40: CEM Wiring/Repair Information

Thank you very much for this informative Post, Mr Russell. Is anyone else having an issue viewing the PDF's on apple device? Also, I read a post where a gentleman had repaired his faulty relay, any idea how this is done?

May fault turned out to be the bulbs I'm embarrassed to say but I did find out quite a bit along the way I was planning to update this thread with some new diagrams and wiring info as the pdf's are no longer viewable I'm guessing the files are just out of date now.

As for the how to for changing the relays as you read through the thread there is various info on how this is done.

Oops. Just saw your previous post about the wiring diagrams. In case you or anyone else needs them in there future, here are the ones for the S40, V40 models from 2000-2004

These should be the right circuit diagrams for the headlight circuit on both V40 and S40 96 - 04 to the best of my knowledge (I called into my local Volvo dealer and the printed them out based on my reg and VIN number)

If you use them in conjunction with the photo's at the being of this thread you should be able to find your way round.

The wiring diagrams for the Phase 1 models from 1996 to mid late 1999 are actually slightly different.

How did you repair the relay? Did you have to remove it from the board?

Wow, you guys are incredibly helpful, thank you so much. Mark, I just realized there are multiple pages for this thread. I will look back for the relay repair procedure. Thanks again guys, I'm going back at it, this thing ain't whipped me yet, lol.

You can't repair the relay. You will have to get new ones (less than £2 each).

I've got a couple of spares of the headlamp relays. Can either send you one or if you have an RS Components nearby I can give you the part numbers.

Resoldering the new relay is easy but it's a PITA removing the old one as the solder is laminated.
