I used to average about 32 to 34 from my 1.4 340 GL (5 speed) - from memory!

I managed 45mpg average in an 85 1.4 340, travelling to work on a 25mile mostly motorway journey, over a period of a week. It really was a good car.
My 360s have mostly been below 30mpg, despite trying everything to get more MPG. I now have a 940 turbo and it does 24mpg mostly. |

I regularly get in excess of 35mpg out of my 1987 340 1.4 with four speed gearbox on the daily run to the station (8 miles each way) and general running around at weekends. The best I've achieved is 42mpg and worst around 30mpg.

I used to struggle to get 25 out of my 360 GLS even on a long run, short journeys it was nearer 22. New carb etc. failed to make any difference.
Shame because otherwise it was a great car. |

I once calcuated 52mpg from my 360 (B200K) at 60mph (I was a poor student with a 400 mile journey to do...and plenty of time) and got an indicated 45mpg at 70mph on the driving computer. Average with mixed driving was 35 or so. In town it'd be down at 20 or so, though.
340 1.4 (5 speed) would do 50mpg at 70mph all day long. Early 340 1.4 (4 speed with the short diff) wouldn't do more than 30mpg...but it did pull like a train from 50mph or so on the motorway (would keep up with modern diesels....very impressive!) cheers James

I did manage to get 36mpg once out of my first 360 GLT all motorway driving at night at about 60mph for 2 hours.
My 1.4 343 4 speed (3.64 diff) without electronic mapped ignition (Renix) achieved 38mpg maximum 4 up on a trip to North Wales and back, which I thought was impressive. Hard to say out of my current 360 GLS B19A - not bothered calculating but I'd esimate it to be returning low to mid 30's on a run and mid 20's to the gallon locally |
