Default Alternator problems?

After being parked up for a couple of weeks I decided to take the XC90 out for a run, started up fine but after a minute or so I got the red triangle and a power system error message.

Luckily I hadn't pulled away so popped back into the house and plugged my meter into the front cigarette lighter socket and battery was only reading 11.9v so no charge.

Fetched laptop and read the codes, other than the usual suspects I had 2 new faults.

CEM-1C06 ACM Electrical Fault and
CEM-1C08 ACM Mechanical Fault

Aux belt looked OK and no new noises so I assume I am in need of a new alternator?

Thats a bit beyond me at the moment so its going to be a garage job, before I get it booked in is there anything I should check first?

Thanks,

Andy

Time for an alternator rebuild. When mine went on my XC90 the car died within minutes

Does anyone know if there is a way I can test if its the alternator or just the regulator that has failed and can the regulator be changed without removing the alternator?

I could manage the regulator if it can be done in the car but getting the alternator out is beyond my abilities with a frozen shoulder.

Luckily the garage is only a 5 minute drive away so if I charge the battery first I'll be OK i hope...
